After the install I never manually allocated any max % RAM. What should it be to work properly?

Do I set the RAM prefs in Photoshop or on the PC? If it’s on the PC, where should I set it?

In Photoshop: Edit > Preferences > Memory & Image Cache….

Hmm, I’m having a similar error.
CS2 used to work fine, but the last few weeks I get the excact same error when I try to save large documents.

"Could not complete your request because there is not enough memory (RAM)"

My system also has 2Gb RAM. (and also is a DELL)

The error doesn’t come up from the beginning…
most of the time it happens after working on large documents for a while.

Only certain computers in my office experience this error, and I have not been able to determine why? Reinstalling the entire suite doesn’t work, and now I think I’ll need to resort to reinstalling Windows!! Help Adobe!!!!

"Could not complete your request because there is not enough memory (RAM)"

how about hard drive space?

that error used to occur a lot when people were running out of swap file space.

what’s the OS scratch size set to? (should be 2 to 2.5x installed physical ram. so 2 gig ram should = 4 to 5 gig swap file. see my computer> properties> advanced> performance then button settings> advanced tab again then button change in the virtual memory section)

how much free disk space is available on both the windows scratch file drive and the drives your using for scratch space in photoshop’s preferences?

what action are you trying to perform when the error is most likely to occur?

what other apps are open when the error occurs?

Hard drive space is not a problem in my situation, i think. I have 4 drives with each about 80 Gb free space. The swap file is set to a sufficient size.

I don’t know this for sure but sometimes I get the impression that the error occurs when working with a bunch of text in photoshop.
And sometimes it happens after opening and saving a few large documents. In my case it happens even if there are no other progs open.

The swap file is set to a sufficient size.

windows swap? photoshop swap or both?

lots of times this error occurs when the user does something in error. for example, when resizing, they input some dimension in the options bar, say 1024 but leave off the measurement. what they want it 1024 pixels (1024px is what they should have typed). what photoshop tries to do is since there’s no measurement in the option bar, is to apply the programs default measurement, which in most cases in the US is inches. so ps tries to resize the image to 1024 inches in one dimension and poof goes all the scratch space. tens and tens of gigs of it sometimes until the scratch disks are (all) full and ps (or rather the os via ps) throws the insufficient memory error (when it really means scratch disk space, which it uses as a memory swap file).

nothing like that going on with anyone having this problem?

In my situation the problematic computer has plenty of drive space, but the page file was set relatively low (700 MB). I increased the minimum size to 3 GB and max size to 4 GB. Hopefully this will help improve the stability of PS. All of the files used are lo-res and no other apps are running. Most of the actions used in PS are filters and multiple layers. Typically it runs fine for about 15 minutes and suddenly the errors start.
