I have been trying to figure this out for a while. I have some images which are in powerpoint online which I need to save and duplicate on my computer. The total file size for all 50 slides are about 4.02 MB. However everytime I cut and paste each individual image into Photoshop and save as a Jpeg, the image is about 1MB by itself alone. If I reduce the image size to make the file size smaller then of course the image becomes too small and if I expand it, it loses the sharpness. Each image on the powerpoint on the web is about 9W x 7H. How can I save the image into my computer using photoshop with the same size and sharpness without each image eating all my hard drive space. thanks in advance.

I would say if you are worried about 1 meg files, its about time you got a new hard drive. jpg will obviously compress much smaller files than saving as a tif,but you are throwing away data.

Actually, I am making flashcards for an upcoming exam and each slide has over a dozen or so questions using the same image. Currently I’m already at 1 GB of hard drive space wasted and I’m only on slide 22 out of 50! Either way, the image sharpness and clarity online in powerpoint is good enough and it’s only about 200 KB or so. I want to save it exactly like this with the same dimension and file size.

Oh PowerPoint, the Pinto of software. If hte image is in the same place on each slide, put in on a Master slide. That way it will only be stored in the PP file once. Try using Save For Web, and play with PNG-24 vs JPEG to see which gives hte better result, both as file size and image quality. PNG files will always look as good or better than JPEGs, and often compress better.

You might try getting the original image files out of the Powerpoint. This can be done by opening the PP presentation and "Save as Web Page" or something like that, and in the bottom of the Save dialog, pick the option to save as .htm or .html, NOT "single file" web page (.mht). This will create a folder based on the file name you supply (test.ppt will by default create a test_files folder. Open that folder, and you will find all of the images that were placed in the presentation, at their original size, although the names will be in the form "slide001_image001.jpg". If all you want is the images, delete the rest of the junk. (By the way, this also works for Word files, and probably Excel, too.)
