squary looking picture when zooming

Hi there,

I wonder why pictures look squary when zooming in or out a certain level. It’s mostly when the picture is opened and fitted in the window. When zooming in more, there are no squares, when zooming out neither.

Anyone any idea? ACDSEE viewer for example doesn’t have this problem on my computer.

View at 100, 50, 25, 12.5 %. All intermediate levels (33.3% for instance) give jagged edges, because the system can’t display fractional pixels, while a perfect mapping would actually nessesitate that.

Is there a way I can set these increments to be default? I mostly use my scroll wheel. With the key shortcuts I have the same problem…

Not that I’m aware, no…

BTW, Other programmes might not show this behaviour because they soften the edges a bit. PS does not use this softening because no serious picture editor wants a display with an interpretation of it’s own.

This is really a bummer then. I really can’t believe that a program such as photoshop, has no option for setting the zoom incrementals!

It would be so helpfull. It just looks awful now!
