I hasten to add that my CS is bought, paid for and registered. However, for the second time now, the brush tools have stopped working. First time I had a long and expensive call to Adobe in the US who talked me through varios options deleting files and foldfers etc only to end up stumped. I eventually reinstalled and things went well for a month or two but *&*(&&^ if the bl**dy thing hasn’t hapened again. Has anyone any ideas?

So how would a pirate copy help??

This can happen with any application. "Something" glitches a file somewhere and you have to re-boot or re-install something.

Several things to look at—is your hard drive running close to capacity or does it need defragmenting?

If Photoshop is the only app that is having issues, then keep leaning on Adobe. However, if its is the application, then I would ecpect it to happen a bit more regularly.

However, for
the second time now, the brush tools have stopped working.

What exactly do you mean by "stopped working"? What are the symptoms?

The symptoms are that the history palette shows I have use the clone or other brush but the image remains unchanged. Tried reinstalling but no luck this time.

What Opacity is the brush? What Blending Mode? Is there a selection active somewhere? Are you on the right layer?

I would Trash Prefs before reinstalling.

This problem usually means that you have a selection active, but you aren’t aware of it.

It may also mean that the brush’s Mode or Opacity is set to something you did not expect (this may happen without your knowledge; many people aren’t aware that hitting a number key when you have a brush tool selected changes the opacity of the tool).

It may also mean that the layer you are on is masked, set to a blending mode you did not expect, or otherwise in a configuration that causes your brush stroke not to be visible.
