I went to Help and found it. You were right. It was set way too low. I’m fixing it now.
Ok – I see my next issue. The text isn’t wrapping. Do I just have to put in manual returns?

Draw a box with the text tool instead of just clicking, then it will wrap inside the box.
You can resize the box by dragging a corner after you have pasted.

Oh boy – I can see I’m really a novice at all this.
Two more questions:
With Pshop 5.5, I see the Text Tool and there are 3 other tools that open out next to it. One is for vertical text and the other two icons have dots around them so I don’t think those are the ones that will draw a box. The regular text tool won’t draw a box so perhaps I’m out of luck?
Last question – let’s say I’ve typed more text than what my image size can display. Do I increase the image size versus the canvas size and will it keep the transparency?

Sorry about that, I forgot you couldn’t draw a box in 5.5.
I don’t have the possibility to try it in that version. I guess you would have to make your own line breaks with Shift + Enter.
If it is a lot of text, you would be better doing it in a layout program if you have one.
Nobody else said it so I will….you’re using the wrong tool for this job. You’re likely better off sticking with Word. Photoshop, especially
5.5 is not a very text friendly application.
Later versions have vastly improved text handling but it’s certainly not a layout application.

Maybe I should back up…quite a bit. I’m taking over my sister’s website (very simple site). The guy that put it together said he had trouble with text in DreamWeaver (typing it directly in) – it was appearing differently on various computers. In order to deal with that, he created images of every large section of text (more than a line or two) so that it would display properly.
When I first took over, I thought "I’ll just type this up in Word and then paste it into DreamWeaver. Looked fine on my screen and then my sister called and said it looked fuzzy and wasn’t displaying nicely as the rest of the text. I figured I’d better stick with what he was doing since I’m not an expert. Therefore, I’ve been using PhotoShop to create the original .psd then I "Save to Web" for the .jpg. I realize that PhotoShop is not meant for typing text however I don’t know what else to try. I guess I’m stuck with manually formatting it in the text box for now until I learn a better way of doing this.
If you have any suggestions, I’d appreciate them.

For lots of reasons, large amounts of text are far better being entered onto your web page as… well, text!
Really you should be addressing your questions to the Dreamweaver forums who will help you sort out why the text looks wrong on some machines and not others.
Most likely you are using an obscure font. If you choose a font which is not installed on the machine the web page is being viewed on, the browser will substitute it with another – sometimes with disastrous results.
If you stick to Ariel or Times Roman, you’ll not go far wrong.

Actually the font I use is Times New Roman so it’s not an obscure font.
I agree with you about the text and I definitely agree that I should post my question on the Dreamweaver forum so I shall do that now!
