I recently installed the 30 day trial of PS CS3 extended, and I have been experiencing a lot of problems with Nik Color Efex 2.0. Originally, I had added the PS CS2 plugin folder in the preferences section of PS3. This worked for most of my other plugins, but not Color Efex Pro. To attempt to fix the problem, I installed Nik Color Efex to the plugin folder of CS3.

This didn’t fix the problem.

Specifically, when I try to use the plugin, I receive this message: “Could not complete the B/W Conversion: Dynamic Contrast Command because of a program error.” This message is generated whenever I use any of the Nik plugins.

I have attempted to fix the problem by deleting the preferences file, but that hasn’t helped.

My OS is Vista Home.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I would remove nik all together for both CS2 and 3, then I would reinstall for each and make sure that the install for each version of Photoshop (if you still have cs2 installed with cs3) is in seperate directories so that it doesn’t get confused by two versions of Photoshop calling it from the same directory. Also, I am not talking about the plug-in fold only here. Some plug-ins create folders in the program files directory or some place else. If nik does this they need to be seperate one for each version of photoshop. If you can’t do this then pick a photoshop and install it for that version only.

Copying is simply referencing the plug-ins you installed for Photoshop cs2 in cs3 is always a bad idea. Not all plug-ins put everything in the plug-ins folder with registry links to that directory.
