I create all sorts of DVD case inserts using Photoshop CS3 and MediaFace 5.0 (which blessedly imports PSD files directly!).

However, occasionally (for advertising purposes) I would love to create a "3D" version of the insert (i.e., with the front cover, the spine, and the back cover showing "realistically") from the flat "2D" version I’ve created…

Is this possible within PS CS3, or a combination of PS, Illustrator, etc.?!?!

Thanks in advance for any answers/suggestions!

sure is. get a good image of a cd standing in the fashion you want, get your image on a seperate layer and use the transform tools (free transform, perspective, skew, etc.) to manipulate your image over the base image.

I’d use the menu Filter => Vanishing Point to help Photoshop find the 3D planes. There is a video about Vanishing Point filter on the CS3 companion DVD. There are also other videos on Adobe.com. Plus there is this article/movie:

Also if you have CS3 extended get a 3d model of a case (which should be easy) or build one and apply you slick as a texture.

Aslo if your feeling really lazy there several products simmilar to
