HI all,
I am trying to do the following…

Copy a shape from Flash, paste into Photoshop.. Fill with black… So far so goode

But what i need to do then is trace this shape with a path so that I can export, or copy + paste this shape back into Flash as a vector shape..

Can anyone advise best way to do this?

many thanks

Can’t you do all this in Flash itself? Why paste in Photoshop?

And if they’re doing vectors, why are they using Photoshop in the first place?

OK, fair point.

What I am trying to do is make realistic shadows that are quite complex and simply cannot be done in Flash with the skewing tool. I thought initially that Photoshop would be able to deal with this complexity, but I am being proved wrong. I mistakenly thought I might be able to apply ‘multiple’ anchors to the skewing but i cannot… So the shadows still do not look right…
While attempting to do this work, it occured to me that I never use the vector aspects of Photoshop and have little knowledge of it. I am simply quite curious…
Nothing wrong with that, is there?

thx

Hey Martin,
I don’t know a lot about Flash but if it recognizes .ai (Illustrator) files or if you can convert them then all you need to do is create your shape (sounds like liquify would be a handy tool for what you’re doing), select it, convert your selection to a path (little icon at the bottom of the Path Palette), and then File / Export / Paths to Illustrator. Let us know how you make out… ~Dr. J

How about exporting it as an EPS, and importing that into Flash?

Maybe that’s all they have, eh?

Photoshop does a fine job at simple vectors. I find the pen tools in PS to be much more consistent than the way they work in AI. Sometimes trying to select a single point in AI is a PITA.

I’d use Fireworks with Flash

Which is why I use Freehand or Corel Draw 😉

LOL! But Glenn’s right in a way because you then use the easy import/export and make the images PNGs which is Fireworks native format.
