I’m using PS6. The Rubber Stamp tool has always worked perfectly, but now in a white area when I Alt-click I get a grey spot. I am not seeing the + for cloning. I was experimenting with various options recently on the menu bar, and think I must have selected something that is not allowing me to clone the same color anymore. Also this tool now shows that it is a Pettern Stamp Tool. What should I do to get it working correctly again? Thanks.

Use the clone stamp tool and NOT the pattern stamp tool.

For the difference between the two tools, consult your manual.
