images won’t open in Photoshop 7

Suddenly today when I click on a .jpeg file (or drag it to Photoshop) I get an error message "Could not open <file name> because of a program error"
I uninstalled and reinstalled the program and still getting the same error. Photoshop is set as the default for .jpeg’s and has always worked fine until this.
Any ideas?

Try trashing preferences.
