Fade out a picture

Well, im making sn insert for a DVD and i was just wondering how to fade out a picture. I have a regular picture, and i just want to start it fading at the bottom until you see nothing.

Add a Solid Color adjustment layer [of the colour you want to fade to] with a mask. Apply a gradient to the mask.

1- make a layer mask and apply the gradient tool to the mask (black to white)- white reveals – black conceals

2- make a new layer and apply the gradient tool from white to transparency.

3- enter quickmask mode, apply the gradient tool to the quickmask channel (black to white), exit quickmask, press "d", press delete.

And there are more ways…

#3 is destructive, #1 and #2 are not.
