Can someone please explain how PSE does the "autoconvert" when emailing photos. Part of my job is to put together "emailable" newsletters, so I need to reduce the size of the photo files that I insert. When I save for web it gives me a "gif" which is often no smaller than the original "jpeg".
In desperation I am emailing photos to myself so that they will autoconvert, but how can I do this better?
Appreciate your help y’all (I’m from the South!)

Non lossy, work in TIFF and use LZW compression.

Lossy, use JPEG and squish as much quality out as you can stand.

If simple disk storage is issue, use .zip or .sit format for any type file.
