I am using PhotoShop 7 on a Mac G4 (OS X 1.25GB RAM) and I have been having a real problem lately with the export transparency wizard. I use the magic wand to select the areas to be made transparent, in this case it is a logo. I run through the routine of exporting and saving the supposedly transparent image as a tiff file. I then place the tiff file into PageMaker and the image is still showing up with a white, not transparent, background. Anyone have any ideas on what is happening here, or is there a better way to do this than the transparency wizard?

Which version of PageMaker?

I don’t use PageMaker, but I’m pretty sure some versions don’t support transparent .tifs.

Pagemaker doesn’t support transparency. If there’s something you need to show through, place it on a layer below it in PS or perhaps build an Illustrator eps with the objects below your PS doc. Indesign is pretty cool about those things, for the record.
