Does this update mean anything if you are not using iPhoto or Aperture?

If your camera is one of the newly includeds, you’ll be able to look at your RAW files in Preview as well for what it’s worth.

Unfortunately they didn’t add support for my camera.

Mine neither. But if it’s a DMC-LX1 or 2 I can offer you a workaround.
