There is supposed to be an option to save a file as an ‘.ico’, but I can’t see it in PS CS2… is it there? where?

Try a forum search. I’m sure someone said recently that there is a plug-in available which will do this.

Axialis Workshop has a plugin for Photoshop where you can transfer images from PS to Axialis to create icons.
