I would like readers opinions on which version of Photoshop Elements to get. I have read good reviews about v 3.0, and some mixed reviews about v 4.0 ( some useful things removed, slower, etc)

MacBook Pro 16” Mockups 🔥

– in 4 materials (clay versions included)

– 12 scenes

– 48 MacBook Pro 16″ mockups

– 6000 x 4500 px

I have nothing but good to say about version 4.0 I have have versions
2.0 amd 3.0 as well. Some things about version 4.0 are slower, but they are
also more featured. It did take me a couple of months before I would say that however as many of the changes took some relearning and some hunting to find some of the features that had moved around.

Since you’re asking for opinions (plural) I’ll
chime in. I’ve used Elements 2, 3, and 4. I was
thrilled with version 2. It was my first
experience with a photoshop product and I greatly
appreciated the ability to dramatically improve
photos.

I then got Elements 3 and my first reaction was
disappointment because things were rearranged,
which was an adjustment.

Shortly after that I went on and got Elements 4
which is similar to Elements 3. I’ve now taken
the trouble to learn the organizer. I’m making
use of the "collections" feature there. It
allows me to put images in a category of my
choosing and to decide how I want it
arranged. I put drawings that have been
scanned and colorized into one category.

I also like the fact that Elements 4 nicely
handles raw files.

Bottom line, It seems 3 and 4 are a bit slower
than 2 but the added organizer features can be
quite useful.

I don’t really understand why someone would like
Elements 3 but dislike Elements 4.

There are a number of manuals now in the book
stores for Elements 4. If you want an inexpensive
one that’s fairly comprehensive I’d look at
Craig Hoeschen’s "Photoshop Elements for Windows
(Visual Quickstart Guide)".

Manuals for verisons 2 and 3 are around but will
get harder to find as time goes on.

In part for the same reason you did not like 3. and the same reason I did not like 3 at first and I did not like 4 at first and likely did not like 4 until you had learned to use it.

Thanks for the responses. I don’t have a lot of spare time and have read about the steep learning curve for photoshop – even the Elements versions. I read somewhere that v. 4 had eliminated several useful features and is considerable slower than v. 3. I am not so concerned with organizing my photos – I can manage that on my own. I want to be able to enhance pics, alter backgrounds, combine elements from different photos, etc. After further review I see that old versions of Elements 3 are selling for about the same price as Elements 4 so I think that will be my choice. Again, thanks for the input

Maybe changed them or moved them, but I have not found any missing.

and is considerable slower than v. 3.

I have not noticed it being really slower. 3.0 was slow enough.

Good luck, Steve. I think you’ll enjoy Elements.

I haven’t identified any features from older versions
that were left out of Version 4. I’m quite interested
in hearing what has been left out. (There may be
something that I haven’t noticed.)
