Another PhotoDownloader Question

I’m running Vista SP1 with LR 1.3.1 and PS6 installed.
PhotoDownloader is set to run automatically, but for some reason it now launches (opens) when my system boots – it never opened before unless I inserted a card into the internal reader.

The only devices listed are "STORAGE DEVICE" and it appears it’s seeing the four slots of my multi-card reader, even though no cards have physically been inserted.

Has anyone else run across this? I’ve tried disabling it by unchecking the appropriate boxes and then re-enabling it, but it still opens during my system boot.

When did the problem begin?
Did it exist pre-SP1?
What firewall, anti-virus application or security suite is installed? There are some that cause problems which do not appear immediately.

This did not occur prior to SP1 and I’m running NOD32 for AV.

NOD32 would not cause a conflict. I suggest you rollback SP1. ——–

Matt, I have the EXACT same problem with Photo Downloader and Vista SP1. I don’t know what version of Vista you’re running but I am using the 64-bit of Vista Home Premium.

I have done a clean install of Vista, updated to SP1 and then added only Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0, which includes Photo Downloader, and reproduced the problem. It’s pretty clear to me that a third- party software is not causing the problem but some sort of faulty interaction between Vista SP1 and Photo Downloader is the cause.

I also posted about this in Adobe’s forums. If you’d like, maybe you can add a post to it to demonstrate it is not a unique problem but an actual bug.

Edit>>Preferences>Organize>Camera or Card Reader>uncheck Auto Launch Adobe Photo Downloader on Device Connect.

If no joy use this handy free utility to disable autostart:

I tried what Bob just suggested prior to my first post, but no luck. I ended up uninstalling and reinstalling PS6 which seems to have corrected the problem. It definitely seems related to SP1 (I’m running Ultimate 32bit).

Did you try using WinPatrol?
In any case, it’s handy to have it available.
