Hello All:

I have someone that would like me to do a business card design for them. However, I usually do large graphics – billboards, movie posters, etc and don’t know what the average rate is for a business card.

Can anyone give me an idea of what they would normally charge for a card design?

Thanks for the help!

Well, take the square area of the final billboard and divide it by the square area of a biz card. There ya go. (Are you serious that you use PS for billboard graphics?)

That doesn’t really work since I work for a media company and we design billboards and movie posters. I don’t do freelance work. I don’t know what corporate contracts for a billboard or poster. Never thought about it.

Yep, use PS and Illustrator for billboards. I work in pieces so it’s easier on the ram.

As the creation of business cards is either done in Illustrator or and or something like Indesign then you may get a better response from the Illy group alt.graphics.illustrator

Funnily enough I am in a similar situation, just been asked to do a logo and was wondering what the going rate was myself.

"Brooklyn NYC" …

Can anyone give me an idea of what they would normally charge for a card design?

My company doesn’t even mention the design cost of the business card when they are taken as a print job. It is virtually free, and the invoice should not be articulated as: 1- design… costs so and so, printing… costs so and so, but rather we say in the invoice: design and printing costs so and so for….. cards on ….. paper, ….. colors. Or simply: printing of …… cards costs so and so!

The rule is that You never mention design COST of a business card, unless you took the job as a design job ONLY. In this case, you will need 30 minutes to one working hour (including design and 2 amendments made by the client) which will be anything MORE THAN USD 14.98 depending on your goodwill.

We need a word other than "logo" to describe what most people refer to here. A "logo" in industrial-strength terms means a visual identity entailing more than grapic artists; it means researchers and lawyers: a Very Big Deal and Huge Money. In the not-so-far future of the ‘net’, it will get worse as people using homemade visual identities are attacked by the sharks of corporate-identity and trademark.

These are the end of the good old days.

Matter of fact I never mentioned the cost – it was asked of me how much I charge to do a business card. I don’t work free lance – I work for an ageny – so that was not something I was familiar with. My idea was to get an understanding of what people are charging to design a business card and then averaging it out to get a fair price.

I am in NYC and the client in in Honolulu and would be doing her own printing. I would just design the card and then e-mail her the design.

This is probably no help at all- but, the answer. at least as far as I’m concerned is the hourly rate. The design costs as longs as it takes, if you see what I mean 🙂

Take a look on google for business cards, I took a look at some sites here in the UK and they were charging anything from £100.
