I have Adobe Photoshop 4.0 and while I don’t use it a lot, one of the things I do use it for is to type information onto bitmap files. In the last day or so, when I click the type tool and type my information the typing won’t stay on the image.
I can type the information, and click ok. It then appears in the "wavy" form on the image. If I go to place the type tool cursor in another location on the page, the original print just disappears! Can anyone please tell me how to fix this? Thanks.

Is the type layer behind the bitmap file? Try bringing the layer to the front via your layer palette.

You have set your type tool to the type mask option. If you click and hold down on the type tool icon in the toolbox you’ll see that you have a choice that appears as "solid" and one that appears as an outline of text. You want to select the solid one.

Of course this all applies only if my recollection of version 4 is accurate. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen it.

There is a Shadowy outlined type tool and a solid lined one. That didn’t seem to be the problem.
I did a search for info on palette layers and once I fixed that, the problem went away.
That’s what I get for using this program for so long in such a limited way! Thanks so very much for the helpful suggestions.
