I use PS6 on a PC with WIN Me. Everything has worked very well for at least a year. I opened PS6 and noticed two anomolies
1. The custom patterns that I have added to the fill option box i.e magic wand>edit>fill>select pattern, are now gone and all I have to choose from are some patterns which are probably preset.
2. When I try to use the quick mask button ( which now looks different i.e. has a shaded frame, I highlight an area ( now the highlight is light pink instead of red) and when I hit the button to the left of the quick mask button, the standard mode button, at the bottom of the left-hand toolbox, a problem arises i.e. the entire artwork is highlighted. There are now two areas highlighted, the original selected area PLUS the entire box around the artwork. If I try to use the fill everything is filled. How can I return to the original settings?

I wrote the original message. I was able to solve the second part, about the quick mask, now I need to know if there is a way for me to to recoup all of the ‘lost’ patterns.

Not unless you ever "backed up" all those custom patterns by saving them into a separate folder on your system and loading them into Photoshop from there…which is also a good habit to adopt if you ever use custom brushes, and you all know who you are.

Just merrily dropping them into the Photoshop folders may bring you tears someday and can tax your system. Fonts, Brushes, Layer Styles, Patterns and Textures (oh, yeah, did I mention ALL FILTER PLUG-INs???)should always have their own little home and be called into service only when needed.

So sorry for your loss.
