Photoshop 7 help tells you how to lock layers, but doesn’t tell you how to unlock an image. I have an image that I want to change the background color on, but it is locked and I can’t figure out how to unlock it so I can change the background and keep the foreground text intact.

In layers, pull the locked image down to duplicate it, then work on the copy and delete the locked layer by dragging it to the little trash can.

.. to change the background color on…

If the layer is named "background" (in italics?) double click on it to convert it to an editable layer.

I’ve moved an image from one computer to my network drive and then opened it in another computer, but Photoshop tells me the image can’t be opened because the photo is locked. It tells me to go to properties to unlock the file, but that option isn’t available. Can someone help me?

If you moved it via a CD: copy to a hard drive and remove the read only attribute.

I moved it through the network server, and the read only attribute is no checked.

It sounds like it got corrupted going through the network. Try another route to move the file. (CD, emailing to self, resending through network. Make sure the initial save is not through the network, but save it to a local drive first)

Read-only does not prevent a file from being opened, only saved.

Somehow my File Browser has gotten "locked" behind my Adobe Option window. I therefore cannot access the "arrow" that would allow me to dock the File Browser in the Palette Well or move it to another location in my work space.

Any help would be sincerely appreciated.

Thanks.
