I downloaded a trial version of photoshop CS 8.0 and today is the third day that i’m using it. I open it up, it gets to the load screen (with the feathers pic) and just stops there. then when i click anywhere inside it the feather’s pic goes all white and freezes there. I can minimize it but it when I press ctrl+alt+del it shows that it’s not responding!
I have a 2.4 Ghz Oentium 4 processor with win xp pro with 256 RAM. Does anybody know what’s goiong on?

try this faq narek:

Mathias Vejerslev "How to delete/reset Photoshop preferences" 2/11/03 1:04pm </cgi-bin/webx?50>

note if you have a trial version DO NOT mess with your system clock as that will disable it and the only way to try it again is to reformat.

Naw. I just tried that right now and it still freezes. Can I just re-download it?

It would be in your best interest to teach yourself how to troubleshoot this sort of problem, if possible.

Even if one is allowed to re-download and reinstall—or just simply reinstall, in the case of a full-paid version—that seems like an awful lot of work to fix what may just be a minor problem.

Learning how to isolate and solve small (and big) problems will serve you well for the rest of your days.

Hear me now and believe me later. I’m here to ::CLAP!:: PUMP YOU UP!!!

You know Phosphor, i really am trying to fix it by myself. But it simply isn’t working. And i’m not a tech wizard, just a high-school kid who loves photoshop. But can’t fix problems with it. So, please, throw me a bone here. by the way, re-downloading isn’t really a problem, i have a cable modem.

Sorry, Narek, I have no clue about your specific problem. I’ve never had a problem like this; could be Windows-specific, and I’m a Maccer 99.9995% of the time.

But heed my advice about general troubleshooting.

Keep checking back on this thread though.

what did you do so far? did you sucessfully delete the prefrences? did you get the dialog asking you to reset photoshop settings? reinstalling it wouldn’t help, and might hurt as the sandbox software (the trial stuff) might see that as an attempt to get around the trial period and time out.

seems the problem might be not enough ram you said you had 256 ram well win xp takes about half of that just to run and Photoshop is ram intensive so it is probably freezing due to lack of ram because the more work you do in Photoshop the more ram it requires you probably started a project then saved it now it takes more ram to open with the project there install more ram

Narek,

You’re a bit short on RAM but the app should load. Couple questions:

1) Have you deleted prefs? (Ctrl + Alt + Shift when you launch the app)

2) Does the app eventually load – if you don’t click around?

3) Do you have any other apps running when launching CS?

also have thought about upgrading my RAM and i’ll probably do that soon. I did delete prefs, it does not open eventually (i waited like 10 minutes) and i do not run anything other than photoshop while i open it. I haven’t saved anything, so it’s not trying to open a big file. It did run kinda slow when i was using it b4 it crashed, but that was ok. One point of interest though, when I press ctrl+alt+del, then right click on photoshop and say "go to process" it says the process is windows explorer or something like that, instead of photoshop (which also shows up in processes). Does this mean windows is doing something other than photoshop?
Also, could it be a virus? i ran spybot s&d for lack of an anti-virus software, but nothing came up.
