I work for a company with multiple lincenses of Photoshop 7 where we rely heavily upon the use of actions. My question is: How would one copy actions that have been programmed, from one computer to another one? We use a lot of the same actions on multiple machines, and it would be easier to just copy the actions onto a disk and load them into another machine instead of having to re-program every time. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don,

Unless the actions you’ve created have been saved out to their own unique location, then PS will save them by default to <installation root>\Adobe\Photoshop 7.0\Presets\Photoshop Actions, and you can simply copy the files from that folder on one system and add them to the same on others. You will still need to load the actions on each system, but that’s just a matter of browsing to the folder and selecting the action set desired. The exception would be if new actions were created as part of the Default Actions set that is typically active when Photoshop is launched.

Save the actions palettes preference file, and move it to the good folder in your new computer, and ALL your actions (that are listed in your actions palette) will follow!

I learned this in this UBER excellent tutorial: <http://www.atncentral.com/installing.htm>

donbrad3,

Sorry to come so late to this discussion.

I found copying by CD to be time consuming (formatting and reformatting CDs) and generally inconvenient. So, I use a little non-network solution to copy files, images, etc. between an old computer and new computer which have different operating systems but are located in the same room.

The products name is LinkQ or QLink and it was VERY inexpensive if I recall.

It is just a 6 foot cable that links the computers directly using a BUS 1 speed and it looks and acts like the interface on ‘Windows Explorer’ or My Computer. Just drag and drop to the folders once both computers are directly linked up.
