dark prints

Have just bought a epson r310 but the prints come out very dark compared with
the computer screen.To make the prints reasonable I have to have the pics on the screen very
bright.Am using photo shop 6.
Any help appreciated

Hi there.

I suspect you need to start some degree of Colour Managment.

The first step would be to try Calibrating your Monitor using Adobe Gamma, but that will only work if you are using a CRT Monitor.

Have a read at the Photoshop Help Files on the Subject.

Once you have done that, and if you are still not happy with the colours coming out of your printer, you will probably need to set up a Colour Managed Workflow.
This is quite a complicated subject, but not rocket science, and once you understand the basic principles it becomes fairly simple. Have a look at www.colour-darkroom.com and go to the page, which I think is still there, "Photoshop 6 – Basic Inkjet Printing on a PC". Your Epson printer is much more modern than the ones used as examples, but the choices in the dialogue boxes should be similar.
