Can you place a stroke on an item that’s all ready been stroked? In other words: a double stroke.

OK guys … keep your mind out of the gutter! LOL …

Add a stroke to an item… Rasterize the stroke layer by Right Clicking on the effect and select Create Layer. You then need to merge the two layers (maybe create a backup of the original layer first). Now you can add another Stroke to the new layer. 🙂

Yes. Select it. First stroke inside, next stroke outside.

Johan,

That doesn’t work … but thank you for trying. 🙂

Of course it does work. As long as you keep the selection alive (or reselect).

No luck here trying that. However, if you make a duplicate layer you can do one outside and one inside. That worked pretty well.

Or you could use a gradient stroke.. with shape burst.
Then set on colour one end, and the other at the other end, and meet them together at 50%
(so you get no gradient)… does that make sense?

I think you’re using the Stroke tool from edit.. not from Blending options. (which does work just as well!)

1. Make a selection
2. Choose menu ‘Edit – Stroke’. Choose your color and click ‘Inside’
3. Click ‘OK’
4. Choose menu ‘edit – Stroke’ again. Choose a different color, and this time click ‘Outside’
5. Click ‘OK’

Of course it doesn’t work with layer styles, because you only have one layer style per layer. If you really want to use layer styles, you have to make a copy of the layer and apply one stroke on each layer (inside stroke on top layer, outside stroke on bottom layer).

That’s how I did it, I prefer it that way because you have more specific control.

No, I was using layer style and couldn’t get it, I used the gradient method as a work around and have also done the stroke, rasterize, then stroke again method.

This is the second really useful thing I have seen so far on this NG.

OK. So what you want is a two stroke? Rotary is better… 😉

There, no gutter 🙂

The style has to be set on shape burst.
Make a massive stroke, set it to centre and put two colours in the gradient. You should then see what i mean.

OK …. thing I’m finding is this: with every method used here, you still don’t get a really ‘square’ outline. It’s either rounded off at corners or clipped on ends of corners.

I’m very thankful for all the new suggestions …. but now how can you achieve a really nice square stroke, or can’t you?

1. Make a rectangular or square selection
2. Choose ‘Select – Save Selection’ and call it ‘Big’
3. Choose ‘Select – Modify – Contract’ and fill the number of pixels you want the thickness of the stroke to be
4. Choose ‘Select – Save Selection’ and call it ‘Small’
5. Deselect
6. Choose ‘Select – Load Selection’ and choose ‘Big’
7. Choose ‘Select – Load Selection’ and choose ‘Small’, and check the ‘Subtract from Selection’ box.
8. Choose ‘Edit – Fill’ and fill with the color of your choice

This is a great group. If you just have the control to not click on the posts that annoy you, you will do just fine.
FYI, While I love to banter with such types, I bet I’m the only one going to the other crossposted newsgroups, replying while removing this newsgroup from the post list. As anyone will notice, it has made a huge difference. I’m sure now that I mention it, it will all increase again, such is the life of a ng.
