Is there a way to change the standard background (workspace) color in Photoshop CS from gray to some other color?

Hi Peter,

If you mean the background surrounding the specific file you’re working on, you can just set the foreground color to whatever you want, then select the paint bucket tool, hold down shift, and click on the background.

Thanks, that already helps me, but i was actully looking for the workspace color which you see when you first open Photoshop and there is no image loaded.

I believe I read in a different thread here that changing the main background color isn’t possible. I know the shift+paint bucket trick doesn’t work. Maybe someone else can give a more definite answer.

Peter,

The idea of using a grey workspace is so that surrounding colour doesn’t interfere with your ability to see the colours correctly. If it were bright red for example, your eyes would de-sensitize to red and your images would be perceived as having a green cast.

You then adjust that perceived cast and lo and behold, everyone else sees your images as having a red cast and that’s how it prints too.

IOW, it’s not a good idea!

Of course you can change it. Can make it any color you want. All controlled in Display Properties/Appearance.
Application Background is the specific attribute.
