Instanced pictures?

Is it possible to create instanced pictures in Photoshop CS? What I mean is for instance you could create one PSD image containing a poster, and then create another picture of a wall and place the PSD image of the poster on the wall and do things like mask it and modify it. And then if you wanted to go back and change the original poster image you could just edit the first PSD and the instanced version would be altered too.
This is possible in a lot of other Adobe programs like Premiere and After Effects (and programs by other companies as well) so it would be nice to be able to do it somehow in Photoshop where it REALLY would be useful…

What you want is effectively linking one image inside another. Nice idea but it can’t be done.
