I asked this question a couple of weeks ago, but this problem is still giving me the blues!!! Can anyone think of anything else I can do????

Here is my problem! I take my pictures in RAW. I then convert them to tiff files in Capture One. I then go to PS CS to do my proofing. At that point I like to save them once again in a new folder as jpeg files. My lab requires jpeg images. However, when I try to reopen the jpeg images, they will not open. I get a message that says, "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document." I am doing everything exactly as I did in PS 7. I’ve checked to make sure my images are 8 bit rgb color. When I posted this question before, someone suggested going to "open as" and selecting the file type. This does work for me, but I’m still not sure that my lab will be able to open the file.

I would appreciate any other suggestions!!! I’m getting very frustrated and feeling that I wasted a lot of money on a program that I’m not going to be able to use the way I want to!!

I hope you’re doing a bit more than trying to convert to JPEGs in PS CS – otherwise you have wasted your money! 🙂

Can you outline, in detail, step by step what you do to save the JPEG.

I had a similar problem.

I use Photoshop to design ads. Then I ‘save as ‘ to save my psd file to jpeg to email to my proof reader. Sometimes, but not all the time when I try to re-open that file in Photoshop it does not open and gives me a similar error message. I simply go to ‘My Computer or windows Explorer’ and add .jpg or .psd or whatever file extension and this solves the problem. It would seem that in re-saving the file the file extension bit is sometimes missed off or I’ve deleted it when I rename the file.

It works for me but that does not mean you have the same problem. But try it.

No Colin – that’s not all I do in Photoshop. But at the end of what I’m doing – if I can’t save and reopen the files (and particularly if my lab can’t open the files), then it’s not doing me a lot of good. I could stick with PS7!

Thanks Deborah! I will try that.
