Hello, all:

I’m not a newbie but am having total failure at using the text tool.

I need to place a few identifying words onto photos and it "don’t work." Here’s what I’m doing:

1. Open image

2. Click on text tool then select horizontal from the flyout.

3. Try to type some text.

4. Nothing works. But I do get a pulsing vertical line that extends downward from the cursor.

Folks, I’ve tried looking through my four (4 – count ’em – 4) books on PS and not one has a simple description of how to do what I need to do. Talk about frustration. . . . .,

I’m not asking for your time to write a tutorial. Maybe someone can point me toward a source that will help, please.

With my thanks,

Dave in Fort Lauderdale

Hi Dave, does not make sense, ’cause that is all there is to it. The moment you click on the Text Tool, it should create a new layer. Immediately, enlarge your font size a lot (and I think this may be your problem – to small comparing to the pic) enlarge it and you can alter the size again.

If you use the Line Tool and write on the line, the text can be on a angle.

Common causes are using white as your text colour! on a white background!! which obviously won’t show, another is the font size is set too large for the text box you have drawn out!!

So check your font colour and size!!

Does the type appear in the Layers Palette in the layer?

Check the leading. Double-click on the T to select and set it to Auto in the Character Palette.

I was in Ft Lauderdale yesterday
quite a nice little city
certainly nicer than down here in Miami!!
what a gorgeous day to be shooting outside at the waterfront and the humidity isn’t here YET
nice long springtime we are having this year
had to laugh at my companions complaining of the heat
still (relatively) cool and wonderful breezes….

Hoo Boy!

(Sound of palm of hand hitting forehead.)

How stupid can I get?

Thank you all for your on track suggestions.

The problem was a setting of baseline shift at some absurdly-wild value. Once that was fixed, all is well and I am at peace with the world.

Until the next time! After all, I’m dealing with Photoshop!

I can’t complain though. It’s like the platoon leader yelling at a soldier balking at climbing the scaling ladder during a medieval castle assault "look, soldier, you knew about the boiling oil before you signed up!"

The humidity just starting to creep in here (Pensacola). Been a very nice spring so far though.
Went Kayaking last weekend in the inlets in Gulf Breeze. Real nice afternoon.

I have found I need to check that all the time (control T) with the text selected
will bring up the text control pallet. Sometimes it just has weird settings. <shrugs shoulders>
