I am trying to teach myself about 3d modelling in my free time. I have a 644MHz Intel system w/191MB of Ram running Windows Me. Are there any Photoshop PLE’s that I can dl for free to try it out (or other similar product)? The requirements for the latest version are more than my comp can handle.

That is an odd amount of RAM.
Your processor and ME are adequate in my experience for Photoshop. However you will do better with more memory.
Also Photoshop seems to choke if you do not have a second partition or second hard drive for a scratch disk, particularly if you do not have at least 512 mbs of memory. I have a film scanner that connects to a computer via SCSI and my old SCSI card does not have XP drivers. So I use PS for scanning and minimal image manipulation. I found that even with an Athlon XP3200/512mbs 400 DDR dual channel memory that PS7 slowed to a crawl until I put the swap disc on a separate hard drive under ME.

Your probably better off learning paintshop pro by www.jasc.com until you get a system that can handle photoshop.. paintshop pro is very affordable, has a lot of the functionality of photoshop on a diet, and there is a demo you can download at their site. The newest version 9 is extensively retooled from earlier versions and inches it closer to the kind of things that photoshop does now.. a very good intro with a lot of the concepts in photoshop.

Plus, it should work on your system better than photoshop.

have a good one.

I’m running Photoshop 7 with Windows Me and 192 Mb of RAM and a 400 Mhz processor – computer is nearly six years old, but it runs fine if a bit slowly, but I wouldn’t know as I haven’t seen it run on a better endowed machine.
If you want to wait until you can upgrade your machine I would suggest you try Adobe Photoshop Elements – it has many of the capapbilities of the full-blown program. You may find you won’t need to upgrade at all —
