Hi folks,

Sorry for this long winded explanation, but maybe the discription of events will offer a clue as to what my problem may stem from.

I have recently moved back home from a long out of town job and have had to reset up my equipment here at home. My daughter and her husband have a computer with no printer so I hired someone to set-up a network for us to share the printers. He installed a wireless network which gives us all access to the internet. Then, using a hub with two USB and one parallel ports for the printers, he tried to get the printers avalilble to all. It didn’t work since the printers didn’t talk back to the computer and I had no ink moniter. I decided to just leave the printers on my computer and use printer sharing over the network. At that point, my computer no longer saw the printers. I had to uninstall the printers and re-install them. That worked, however, now when I try to print with preview from PSCS2 I no longer get the preview when I hit the print button.

I did use the latest Epson drivers for the 2200, although I don’t seem to like that interface as well as the one originally furnished with the printer. I guess it is just a matter of getting used to it. But now, I no longer get that large final preview to see just how it will be situated on the paper. The little preview window in the printer’s software doesn’t do it. I always had that before, but then had the large preview (although with distorted colors) to see just what I was going to get. Is there a setting in PSCS2 that changed? I can’t seem to find anything that addresses this problem. It seems like it should be a PS problem as opposed to the printer drivers, but I can’t for the life of me figure what would have changed in PS. I didn’t use PS until after I got the printers working so I don’t see why something would have changed in it.

Thanks much,

Tom

There is a check box in the driver to get the preview.
If you check it off under control panel/printers/preferences then the preview will will always be on unless you specifically uncheck it. Depending on how you employ color management the preview may or may not have the overwhelming pink cast.
If you are not using color management I do not know how you can begin to use this printer.

Tom,

Was the printer local prior to trying to network them? PS9 doesn’t like networks. Try uninstalling all printer drivers. Then delete your preference file (hold down control+alt+shift key whilst restarting PS and the attach and install your printer locally. You should be able to network and share your printer(s) wirelessly if all PC’s and Router are wireless enabled. Printers must be set to "share" in the sharing tab if you want them to be seen by others on the network. But only print from PS locally.

I have been using the printer and color management for three years now and with great success. The preview was for structure, not color. Color is checked in soft proofing. I used to use Cathy Stratton’s profiles until Epson updated theirs with great improvement and have used Epson’s for the last 1-1/2 years..

The problem as I outlined is the change that occured after moving and reseting up the printers.

Thanks for the info, however, when I checked the box I still didn’t get a preview. Back when I did get it, the colors were funky, but never pink. The prints always came out right. The important part of the preview was to be able to see the exact border you would get and much more detail of the photo such as exact position and no clipping.

BTW, you can check it when it comes up in PS, and it still shows up if you go into control panel/printers/preferences. It doesn’t seem to matter where you check it. It just doesn’t do what I am looking for.

That’s what I did, use the printers locally on my machine. It was after I did that, that the problem started. I deleted the printers and reinstalled them. And I just now reinstalled the original printer driver that came with the printer and now I have the preview window back. I am not sure exactly what did it, but I am now happy again.

Thanks for the help and suggestions.
