Anyone know what would cause my Photoshop desktop suddenly to disappear when I open the program?

All I can see is the Photoshop centre panel when the program is opening, then the ribbon/menu bar at the top, the tools panels at the sides and of course when I try to open a photo, the OPEN panel. Otherwise all you see is the windows desktop under the Photoshop menu bar??

But the program will open photos which you cant then see. You CAN print them (and you can see them on the PRINT WITH PREVIEW function) but you cant see them on the desktop at all? I tried rebooting but it did nothing. (I DO have very little space left on my hard drive)

Next time you open Photoshop, before opening, hold down the CTL, ALT and SHIFT keys, and then open PS. Keep holding them down until you get a message that asks "Delete the Photoshop Settings File?". Click Yes. That will restore the default settings.

Don’t forget to reset your Color Settings to wherever you had ’em.

You mentioned you have very little space on your hard drive. First, consider getting a larger one. In the interium, defrag the drive.

Now sure what I am doing wrong but initially it wouldnt open Photoshop

Then it started merely opening the Properties window when I hold down the three keys while trying to click on the Photoshop icon (or open it from START-PROGRAMS-PHOTOSHOP)

OK, I Managed to get Phtoshop to open and ask me if I wanted to restore default settings and then to configure the colour settings but it STILL gives me a windows desktop background and I can’t see photos. I defragged and deleted some old pjhotos which Ih ad already transferred to CD ROM but as I say still have the same problem

Anything I can try next?

What OS? If Windows XP I’d suggest restoring to a point at which it worked.

Does an Adobe Photoshop bar appear in the Taskbar? If so click on it and see what happens.

Do you have another version of Photoshop or a demo installed?
