Problem with "Save As"

when I open a tiff file in Photoshop and then File/Save As–when I select the folder to save to, the name of the file at the bottom of the dialog box automatically changes to a different file.

As a workaround, I have been going to Breezebrowser, and saving a copy of the original to the folder where I ultimately want it, then going to Photoshop to work on the file.

I am pretty sure this did not happen in the past. Is there a preference setting out of whack? Save and Save As in photoshop should work just like they do when saving a Word document in Microsoft Word, shouldn’t they?

thanks for someone’s help…

the name of the file at the bottom of the dialog box automatically changes to a different file.

A different file type or a different file name?

Just for giggles and grins, you File|Save As, then choose a file type if it isn’t already in your desired format (such as Tiff or JPG), then name the file whatever, then navigate to the destination folder – and not necessarily in that order. Is that what you’re doing that is showing an unexpected change?
