It just started yesterday. I was trying to add some type to a picture. I clicked on the type tool icon in the tool bar, wwnt over to the picture and clicked where I wanted to start typing and now I don’t see a blinking cursor, and my mouse pointer turns into the move tool.
Any ideas on what happened?
Thanks

I don’t know, but someone told me what to do.
You need to trash your preferences file.
Close photoshop. Hold down the alt+ctrl+shift keys. Then right click on your shortcut icon to photoshop and select open. A tiny window will pop up asking if you want to delete your settings file. Say yes. When photoshop starts, it will create a new file for you, and the text tool will work again.

Any other way to get to the settings file? No tiny window poppin’ except for a blood vessel or two out of frustration.

Ok. I’m working again. I went to Photoshop Help and looked under Preferences/Restoring Default Settings. Didn’t need the shortcut icon, but the path was exactly like you described it.

Just out of interest you could probably have cleared this odd behaviour by resetting just the Type tool.

Resetting preferences means you have to go through the lot in the Edit menu to get things back how you like them. (Unless you kept a copy of a "good" set in a safe place.)

Hey John, how do you reset the Type tool on its own? Thanks.

In the Character palette from the fly-out menu:

There’s also a similar fly-out button under the Options bar: click here to find it
