I’m sure I’m missing something obvious here but…

….is it possible to record an action that applies a Black to White horizontal Gradient Fill which runs from Left border to Right border, regardless of an image’s pixel dimensions?

my thanks…

Would the following get you over the hump?
* Image > Rotate canvas > 90 CCW
* Add Gradient fill of choice
* Layer > Rasterize > Fill content
* Image > Rotate canvas > 90 CW

Thanks, Danny… yes that’s helped me sort it. Bit indirect because the (full left-right) Gradient needed to be applied to an (Adjustment) Layer Mask but, using your Fill Layer idea with Solid to Transparent (and the dialogue does allow to rotate, so no need for the CW/CCW steps) I could then Rasterize and Ctrl-Clk it and so apply my Adjustment Layer with this as its pre-defined mask, finally deleting the Grad Layer.

Excellent. I knew I was missing something: in all my Photoshop time, I’d never developed a need for Gradient Fill Layer, so completely forgot it was there!

My P&S Canon G2 unfortunately has a barely noticeable but sometimes intrusive left/right gradient Colour Cast (another G2 I used had exactly the same…) but this (long overdue!) little action redresses that nicely…
Thanks again…
