Hi,

Having an annoying problem with Photoshop CS2.

I was trying to us Save for Web with an image that has a transparent background. Problem is Photoshop keeps putting a light grey background to the image instead of making it transparent.

Tried making a really basic white square on a transparent background image to make sure it wasn’t my original image messing up but it did the same thing.

Reinstalling the whole of CS2 had no effect.

Anyone else had this problem before?

Cheers,

Paul.

What file format are you using?

JPEG does not support transparency

Indeed. I was trying to save as GIF although PNG does the same thing.

What mode is the PSD image?

RGB? CMYK? what? I take it this is for print? Otherwise, transparent should be just that, if you’re doing things the way you know should work.

And, if for print, why GIF?

This sounds more like a color space issue. Photoshop is probably just doing what you tell it to, even though it isn’t what you actually want.

It’s in RGB mode (sRGB). The image is for a webpage.

When I tried to save out a basic 2 colour image, a white square on a transparent background it still put light grey where the transparency should be. Yet the colours on the right only showed white and transparent. So I don’t know from where this other colour was appearing.

* Post a link to your webpage showing the problem you’re seeing with the image in place.

* Post a link where one of us can download a copy of your original PSD image.

Transparent should be just that, especially if your image is floating on its own otherwise-transparent layer. You HAVE turned the Background to hidden before you go to SFW, right?

Yup background is turned off.

It saves fine on another machine just not on mine. I’m wondering if my install of Photoshop has become corrupted or something similar.

I’ll try a proper clean install first.

"I’m wondering if my install of Photoshop has become corrupted…"

Very possibly not.

"…or something similar."

Most likely your color profiles/settings.
