Just curious if anyone has tried any of the numerous "compatible" printer cartridges for the Epson 1280? I am tired of paying the $50 for Epson cartridges, but don’t want to damage my printer or get noticeably lower quality prints. If anyone has any recommendations, i’d love to hear…Thanks!

Just to be clear, JD’s link is about intentional counterfeits. From the article…

"Fake cartridges–which are not to be confused with third-party products clearly labeled as such and compatible with various name-brand printers–are showing up in reputable brick-and-mortar retailers and online stores"

I too have considered alternative inks from reputable manufacturers, but I prefer to be able to hold Epson to issues such as lot to lot variation and color fastness more than I would a third party manufacturer. I would hate it if all of a sudden my reds were lighter and I was pulling my hair out to try and figure it out.

To me, it’s more about the consistency of manufacture.

There are reputable ink suppliers who have compatible cartridges ( mediastreet.com, inksupply.com, inkjetart.com, to name a few ) . These cartridges, though, are not a great bargain on price compared to Epson carts. I’d look into a continuous flow system, if you use a lot of ink, and want to save money in the long run. Any of the above suppliers can provide a cfs solution, I believe, and then you simply have to buy bulk ink at a considerable savings over cartridges. You will need a hardware profiling system to get your image colors correct.

THanks everybody! I htink I will just stick to the Epson also. I would rather have a reasonable expectation as to what my ptintouts will look like. It looks like the extra couple of dollars are worth it?

Alex,

This article is probably more appropriate to your question.
