Hi

Is there a way of simplifying the spectrum of colors in an image into, say, 10 colors and analysing how much of the image each color makes up? The closest I’ve got is using the cutout filter and select color range. Does anyone have any better ideas?

Thanks in advance!

The Cutout Filter uses IMO n levels per channel.
like Posterize. We’ll get for n=2: N=2*2*2=8 colors
and for n=3: N=3*3*3=27 colors.
Better use Save for Web, GIF, Perceptual, Selective
or Adaptive, no Dithering, N=10 colors.
Set Magic Wand: 0 tolerance, not contiguous and click
on one color area. This delivers a selection.
Open Windows > Histogram and read the number of pixels with this color (in any mode).
Take care about the cache settings.
The total number of pixels is indicated by Histogram
if no selection is active.
IMO it’s a little difficult to find the 10 different colors without repetition.
