Layers & adjustments will transfer over?

Hi, I am working on a 24 x 27 inch poster (photo). The final resolution will be 300, but I am working on a copy saved at 72 for obvious reasons. My thought is to work on the 72 res photo and then drag the new layers over to the 300 res image at the end of the project. Will this work? Will it transfer over ok. Lots of selections, alpha channels, adjustment layers, cloning etc. Thanks for any hints.

Anything containing pixels will have to be resized,
which will reduce quality.
