Hi there,

I have recently started to paint pet portraits in Photoshop, just wondered what you all thought of them. My most recent one is this horse/pony which is for a Christmas present.

Thank you John 🙂 Actually, the horse is my most recent – I have done 6 altogether, although my first one was a poop so I don’t tend to count that one lol I enjoy doing them, I hope that shows in my work.

Your photoshop technique looks good but can I suggest that photographing an animal or person up close with a short lens doesn’t compliment them at all. Much better to use a longer lens to flatten the perspective a bit.

cheers nb

The horse looks great, but why the long face?

I really like how you cleaned up the horse too. The new image looks so much better than the original. Great job!

Very nice! If you have not done a tryout of Painter (now by Corel), you might want to explore it as an excellent adjunct to PS.

Hi Shantel,

Very nice, but if you’re going to make a living (or trying to) out of this you really should investigate Corel Painter. Version IX is just out – it’s a fantastic piece of software for painting, miles better than Photoshop.

Hi nb, I didn’t take the photo so I didn’t have any control over how it was taken, but yes I know what you mean 😉
