I (well, my mother and grandmother really) purchased the CS2 Creative Suite package via the education store. However, I would like to get the "official" version, and be able to use it, or at least Photoshop, for commercial purposes. I was wondering what I would have to do to be allowed to do so. Would I have to simply pay for an upgrade to CS3, or would I have to pay for the whole next version? Is there some sort of deal for this sort of thing? Please respond soon. Thanks in advance.

Dane,

The education version is no different from the retail or commercial version other than being offered at a discount for students and other qualified individuals. So, when you upgrade to CS3, you will simply purchase the normal upgrade and use your existing CS2 installation CD as the qualifying media when performing the installation.

You have the official version. You’re simply one version behind what’s current.

The academic EULA has no restrictions on the use of the software so if you’re not ready to upgrade, you can go right ahead and make money using CS2. Otherwise, as Daryl points out, just get the CS2 to CS3 upgrade but please note that YOU CANNOT upgrade individual components of the suite…you need to upgrade the entire suite.
