I’ve opened several files and can’t add a layer. What am I missing?

Image>mode>8 bit or 16 bit?

If 16 bit, then it wont support layers – only 8 bit.

Also, if it was a gif on the web, it is indexed mode, which also won’t support layers. Switch to RGB mode.

I knew it had to be something simple. Everything I read says to stay in 16bit so I assumed I could use layers. Maybe in PS8. 🙂
